Prairie Chicks Scrapbook Challenge # 10- Jen's
For challenge #10 we are creating an altered item (ie: recipe box, canvas,
picture frame or anything that you have sitting around to re-purpose). Use your
imagination. One catch, you must use pattern paper somewhere on the altered
item.
As usual you can play along by uploading your pictures to our facebook page or emailing us a photo to prairiechicks@sasktel.net .
I (Jen) altered an old mail sorter that I found at a thrift store.
Supplies used:
-spray primer
-white gesso
-Basic Grey paper, Cappella
-Prima Marketing, Birdcage metal embellishments by Inga Bolme
-Melissa Frances Resin pieces
-Graphic 45 Little Darlings paper (in the little frames)
-Prima roses
-paper leaves
First I primed the mail sorter with a grey primer, glued the Basic Grey paper behind the wood bars and on the outer side, then white washed the gesso over the whole piece to give a worn shabby chic look overlapping the pattern paper a bit to hide the edges. When everything was dry I hot glued the flowers, leaves, resin pieces and metal trinkets to the corners of each section of the sorter.

Prairie Chicks Scrapbook Challenge #10- Barb's
For challenge #10 we are creating an altered item (ie: recipe box, canvas,
picture frame or anything that you have sitting around to re-purpose). Use your
imagination. One catch, you must use pattern paper somewhere on the altered item.
As usual you can play along by uploading your pictures to our facebook page or emailing us a photo to prairiechicks@sasktel.net .
Here is what Barb came up with,
Using Marrakech paper from Basic Grey she glued to puzzle pieces and cut with a craft knife, inked each piece with Pinecone ink from Versacolor then put together face down. when the puzzle was complete she cut a piece of paper that was 1/2" smaller on all sides and glued it to the back of the puzzle this makes it easier to center on the paper for the frame.
Hint: put the puzzle together first the number the pieces on the back to know the order the pieces go :)

Perfect!!
Well temptation has definitely taken over! Seaside Cottage has just arrived and since I (Barb) am renovating my craft room and these are the colors I was thinking of, makes me think it was meant to be! You might want to get in here soon before I snatch it all!

Sew Kind of Wonderful
We have been seeing a huge shift in the quilting industry toward a very contemporary/modern style in quilting. Contemporary quilters want to see simple lines, big blocks, bold colors and fast and easy assembly! Using more solid color fabrics in projects also seems to be a big trend right now.
These patterns, by Jenny Pedigo of Sew Kind of Wonderful, are a good example of that contemporary style!
Jenny makes sewing curves easy! She has created a ruler to go along with her easy to follow patterns. This ruler takes the intimidation out of curved piecing. Sewing curves has never been easier!
Here is something that we have been working on using her "Urban Beads" (54" x 75") pattern and "Quick Curve Ruler".
