Strip n' Swap at Prairie Chicks?!? Now I know what you're thinking and no it is not a clothing exchange, no one will be down to their gitch! In this case the STRIP is a 2 1/2" Width Of Fabric strip which is what you would bring to SWAP. You can bring as many as you like and you will take home the same amount you came with. They don't all need to be the same, however the strips must be in the following muted colors: (no brights please) green, brown, cream, pink, and purple (Below is an example). Over tea and delectable goodies we will present a trunk show with lots of 2 1/2" strip ideas. There is no cost to this event and no need to sign up, just come and join us! Tammy and Jen's CHA Adventure Comes to an End

It's now been a week since we came home from CHA, and I'm finally able to absorb all that I saw and learned. Seeing that much crafty inspiration has had our brains in overload mode. One of the things that stood out for me was the mixed media techniques that were showing up on pages, canvas and altered art, which had me digging out my glues, mists and glitter to see if I could get some of the same looks. Let's just say I'll need some more practice ;) I did learn something cool you could do with CraftWorkCards Candi.

The owner of the company showed me how to make these wonderful flowers using the Candi by gluing down one piece onto a 1'' punched circle in the center and then placing a bead of glue around the Candi piece and tucking pieces of the Candi around the center in a spiral pattern until you have the size of flower you want. For the center take three-five pieces, fold in half and snip off a corner so you can glue the snipped side onto the center piece to get the bud of the flower. For the leaves slightly pinch one side of the Candi piece to give a point and adhere just under your flower.

Some of the products that I found were really popular were thin dies like Spellbinders, Lifestyle Crafts, CheeryLynn Designs. Die Cutting in general was very popular. There was no shortage of people at the Ellison(Sizzix), Spellbinders, Cricut and Tim Holtz Alterations booths.

Stamps are still very popular with companies producing stamps that go with dies and co-ordinating with paper lines and of course the ever popular stamps for coloring like Magnolia, The Greeting Farm Stamps, Tim Holtz's new line of Alterations stamps, La Blanche and many more.

This is a guide to stamp around from Inkadinkado, it comes with a block that fits into the slots, and you can use different stamps to get different looks.

Look what you can make with this, awesome art!

Flowers and lacy trims are still very popular. But I did see more masculine hardware items added to pages such as keys, gears, clocks and more masculine charms. Of course metal trinkets in general are still a big thing.

Layering is really big, cutting out the designs from the paper and layering them on top of the layouts giving a paper tole look or just adding layers of different things to make your page, tag or banner 3D.

Another thing I thought was interesting was the use of glitter as an art medium with beautiful pieces done with stencils and mixing glitter with glue and art gel medium. I can't even describe how beautiful this looked.

The Tim Holtz Distress markers were a big hit as well as Ranger's new Stamping paper.

And we can't forget the beautiful new paper lines from BoBunny, Authentique, My Mind's Eye, Kaiser Craft, Prima Marketing, Echo Park, Graphic 45, Karen Foster and more.

Tuesday night we did some shopping and had supper in Downtown Disney. We ate at the Rainforest Cafe where I was so enthralled by the scenery( thunder and lightening occurred every 20 min) it wouldn't have mattered if the food wasn't that good but it was delicious!

On our final day in Anaheim we had to make one last trip to Disneyland and the California Adventure Park. At the end of the day we watched World of Color, sooo pretty!

This ride was so fun. It was a shooting game where you played the person next to you. I won in points but Tammy was more accurate in her shooting.

Waiting for this awesome roller coaster, we went twice as well as the Tower of Terror :)

I had to go on this ride for my son, who used to be an avid fan and watched Star Wars almost every day. I loved the ride, I think he would like it too.

Anyone who knows me knows I love all things vintage and Victorian so this was the perfect place for me to eat.

World of Color

I hope you enjoyed sharing a bit of this trip with us. We had a wonderful time being inspired and entertained. Being warmed by the California sunshine and surrounded by beautiful palm trees.

Tammy and Jen's CHA Adventure

CHA DAY 1

Every morning Tammy and I have been enjoying breakfast outside on the balcony of our hotel. I just can't get over how nice the weather is. This day it's 26C and feels so nice.

The Conference Center where CHA is held is huge and I love how the palm trees are all perfectly aligned.

We had never been to CHA before so when we first walked in it was very overwhelming and the question was where do we start? So Tammy went one way I went another. This is total brain overload for the crafter, the displays are phenomenal, loaded with inspiration.

We saw lots of glitter art and mixed media.

I love the chicken wire on this.

Make and takes

One of the booths was so creative(DCWV). I want to make one of these for in my house. It was so cool! Its made out of paper with bird cages tucked in and hanging from everywhere.

Same booth, this turtle and fish were made completely out of paper as well as the peacock below.

The Happiest Place On Earth

Ok, you can't come all the way to California, be right across the street from Disneyland and not go. So this was our first order of business.

Landing In L.A.

What a beautiful sight to see as we flew over California and saw the snow disappear. I'm not a big fan of winter and this looks like heaven to me.

Ahhhh...warm summer air (at least it feels like summer to us). This totally makes up for the cold -40C weather we had earlier. After checking into our hotel we headed to the Convention Center to register and get our passes.

Don't you just love palm trees :) Next on our to do list was to check out the Anaheim Garden Walk for a little shopping and dining at the 50's inspired Johnny Rockets, yumm!

Come get your fill at our Card Buffet this Friday noon-9pm!! We will have a HUGE selection of supplies, die-cuts, embellishments, etc. set up buffet style in our workshop, all ready for you to come and make cards. No need to book a spot, just show up with your adhesive and paper trimmer. Stay for as long as you like and make as many cards as you would like. Cost is $1.50 (plus taxes) per card.

Last week Prairie Chicks staff was very busy creating new sample pages for the store. We made 21 pages in total to inspire your creativity and get you scrapping! We won't overload your senses with showing all of them today but we will show a few this week and the rest next week .

This is a mini album made from toilet paper rolls. You flatten the roll and use the center as a pocket for photos and tags. Glue one side of the TP roll to seal and add your binding. Decorate as desired.

Hibernation Time!

With a quilting class going on at the shop today, I sit here listening to the hum of the sewing machines eagerly wanting to go home and hibernate in my craft room. With the snow that has fallen this week, the urge is stronger than ever. Anyone else having this problem? I get butterflies just thinking about it, it's like puppy love only in this case it's for quilting. What projects are you working on?

Here we are again for our staff scrapbook challenge #3. Our official title to this challenge will now become Prairie Chicks Scrapbook Challenge as we would love for our readers and customers to feel welcome to join in on the fun and show us what you come up with so we can all inspire each other. You can email us a picture of your project at prairiechicks@sasktel.net or upload your project onto facebook and the either adding it to our page by uploading in the status space or tagging it.

For our challenge Amanda made this super cute tag mini album. She used Ranger's #5 Kraft tags as a base for her album and used Basic Grey's Kioshi line for the rest. She also made a little stand in the back of the mini so it could stand on a desk or shelf.

Staff Challenge #2- Jen's

I wanted to do something different than traditional photo frames to display pictures of my children so I used this hanging frame used for small quilt projects. I built each layout on a piece of chipboard and made a paper sleeve to hang them from the wire frame. I found a really nice poem on parenting online to put in the middle. The paper line is Basic Grey's Out of Print and I added Kaiser Craft flowers and wooden leaves.

For those who have just started following our Staff Challenges, this is our second challenge. In this challenge we were to come up with a 3D project or wall hanging. It's been fun to see what everyone has made. You really get to see everyone's different personalities come through in what they've made. We would love to see what you've come up with. You can upload your photos to our Facebook page, or if you are not a Facebooker you can email us your photo at prairiechicks@sasktel.net and we may feature it on our blog at the end of this challenge!

Here is Barb's project. She made this beautiful altered canvas using Bo Bunny's new Forever Fall collection. Don't you just love the vibrant colors!

Here is a close up of the flower, she used Glubers to build the layers of the flower and added a trinket from the collection as her center.

Staff Challenge #2- Tammy's

So here we are on our second staff scrapbook challenge, we've been enjoying these fun challenges as we make samples to display and hopefully inspire you. Label it Staff Challenge #2. Each challenge runs 6 weeks as we post once a week for each staff member here at Prairie Chicks and the 6th week we will chose one or two of your projects to feature on our blog and facebook.

So this challenge was a fairly general challenge in that we were to make any three dimensional object or a wall hanging.

Here is Tammy's three dimensional birdcage. the bottom of the birdcage was made using an ice cream pail lid painted black. the rest was made from black cardstock and die cut flowers.

She also made this beautiful butterfly treat holder. Template will be available for the outer butterfly wings soon. Ask in store.

Each Thursday we will post the different projects that we've come up with. We hope you join in with us and we would love to see your projects!

One of the new things that we started at Prairie Chicks is a regular staff challenge where each one of us will be challenged to create something scrapbook related every five weeks. We will then post pictures featuring each staff member's project once a week here on the Prairie Chicks blog. Feel free to play along with us each challenge. You can email us with photos of your projects to prairiechicks@sasktel.net . There are no prizes but your project might just get published on our blog! We would love to see what you do.

So for our first staff challenge we were asked to create a layout and a card (with the scraps left over from the layout) from five of our newer lines of paper. We drew the paper lines out of a hat just to be fair :)

Block of the Month

For all of you in our Block of the Month program, there is a mistake in Junes' instructions. For fabric B (Dk Purple or Dk Gold depending on which color way you are signed up for) it says to cut 4-2 1/2X2" squares. This is incorrect, it should read to cut 4-2 1/2X2 1/2" squares. You will still have enough fabric, however if you find you are short or have already done the row and need more fabric, please do not hesitate to call 225-4787. We are VERY sorry for this inconvenience.
